When Manen created the world, she used vast amounts of Herself to do it. She is magic. Leftover bits of magic pooled in various pockets around the world. The creatures that spent significant amounts of time in these pockets ended up changed, given strange abilities and unusual looks. Here are a few such animals:
Fire Gazelle
They are larger than normal and can run faster. Their fur is red and orange and their horns burn perpetually with a fire that cannot harm them. They are found exclusively in Efitras.
Frost Fox
Slightly smaller than a normal arctic fox, they are swifter and more agile creatures. They live in the arctic tundra and can perfectly blend into their snowy surroundings. Some people suggest they go invisible. They are highly intelligent and understand human speech, though they only communicate with those Eira has blessed.
Ghost Frog
They are larger than the goliath frog and even more translucent than a glass frog. They are hard to find and live mostly in marshy areas. Their call is almost like an ethereal song and lures many a victim into the water where they are drowned and eaten. They mostly feast on small animals, but they have been known to eat larger prey if they are in big groups.
Moonraven
They are slightly larger than normal ravens with shimmery white plumage and silvery blind eyes. They can fly faster than any other bird and can always find where they are meant to be. They make excellent messenger birds, but they are rare, making them expensive. Only the wealthy and the Order use them.
Starcat
Large, fearsome cats. They shine like starlight and dazzle their prey. Their colors vary like the colors of stars. Blue starcats live in the mountains. Yellow starcats live in the ancient forests. Red starcats live in the red deserts. Orange starcats live in the Bronzewood and are an oddity to the rest of humans and animals that live there as they aren’t bronze or metallic in any way.
Wind Lemur
These primates are no different in size than their normal brethren. They are, however, in shades of blue and white, like a bright sunny sky with fluffy white clouds. They are fast and can leap greater distances and even whip up a wind to confuse and deter predators.
Silver Bear
These vicious beasts are larger and more ferocious than polar bears. Their fur shines silver and when they are killed it turns into silver, much like Kalnasaran’s spun metal hair when they die. Few try to hunt them for sport and silver as it’s a death wish. They keep mostly to the remote pine forests around Moon Fort and in the wild forests of Karhunas.
